Baby Shower History

Derin and I tried searching for the history of Baby Showers so we could bring you the background information for the party that you about to have. There seem to be several versions of how it all started, the one that that seem most credible is what we have brought to you.

It is said that Baby Showers started in the late eighteen hundreds and received its name from the "showering" of gifts and lots of love on the mum-to-be before the big day. The concept started as a tea-party for women only and the mum-to-be was presented with presents that were mainly hand made. Umbrellas were a popular symbol of the event because the baby shower was traditionally an afternoon event and the guests would use the umbrella to stay out of the sun.

Just like many other things in life, Baby Showers have grown over the years. Originally they were only meant to be thrown for the first child a woman had but now, it is common place to have baby showers for the second, third and even fourth child!

There is no particular etiquette as to when and where a Baby Shower should be held. I have been to several and the venues and times are so varied. Venues ranged from a restaurant to one that was held on a boat over the River Thames in London.

Baby showers are just like any other parties in terms of the nature of the party, so you can actually set the mood and tone as seem fit. The most important thing to know is that you should create beautiful memories that will last for years to come! And most of all, enjoy it!
