Games are a great ice breaker in a baby shower and they can set the right tone and mood for the party. Baby Shower games can make the party very memorable and a lot of fun but you should try to make sure that you do not overwhelm your guests with too many game activities. A general rule of thumb is to play about 3 games in a 2 hour baby shower.
There are so many lovely games to choose from and these days a lot of baby shower host even make theirs up! We have listed here some ideas that you can try.
To play this game, you pass around a bag filled with baby things and ask the guests to try and guess the contents of the bag. When everyone has had a go, open the bag and empty the contents, the person the most correct number of items is the winner. This was a game that we played at my sister in-law’s baby shower last December and it was a great hit! Set up a scenario for the guest; the new mum is about to go out on a visit to spend the day at grandma’s, so what should she carry in her changing bag. This was so hilarious just reading out the answers that the guests gave. The person with the most correct answers is the winner. Bear in mind that the experienced mums in the party will ask a lot of questions!
Don’t cross your legs/Don’t say ‘baby’
This is a game that will last through the length of the baby shower. When the guests come in, give them a plastic dummy with a necklace. Set a rule that if anyone is caught crossing their legs, their dummy necklace will be taken from them. Or if they say the word ‘Baby’ their necklace will be taken from them. Sometimes new parents get stuck on what name to call their new baby as there are so many names to go through. You can help them out by playing this game. It is so much fun especially when the guests try to come up with names that do exist. Using a combination of all of mum’s names or mum and dad names, time the guests and have them create baby names from these combinations. Have the guest draw a picture of how they think the new baby will look. You can time this so that it does not go on and on. Make sure the drawings have names and dates on the reverse side of the paper or card used. Ask mum-to-be to pick her favourite. The guest whose drawing is picked is the winner. Try this: instead of discarding the drawings, try making them into a scrapbook for an excellent keepsake!
Wrap a prize in several layers of paper and pass around the guests while music is playing. Stop the music at intervals and whoever has the parcel when the music stops gets to take off some layers of the wrapping paper. Turn the music back on and keep passing the parcel until the prize is revealed. The guest with the revealed prize is the winner.
Pour some uncooked rice into a medium sized bowl and thrown in some baby clothes pins. Blindfold a volunteer and have them search for the pins within a given time. Let a number of people have a go. The guest with the most number of pins is the winner.
